The stories of Family Annihilators are often sad, scary, and even daring. These cases are particularly daring and, in some cases, infamous.
Although there are specific names for “Family Annihilator”, such as Familicide, Filicide, Infanticide, and Neonaticide, most are collectively called Family Annihilator. You can read descriptions in detail of this type of case at The Psychology of Murder, Insanity, and Murder Degrees.

The following True Crime Books represent several cases of Family Annihilator, most with one mission: get rid of their family.
The Perfect Father: The True Story of Chris Watts, His All-American Family, and a Shocking Murder
On August 13, 2018, Chris Watts knew he was going to kill his family. Chris played the greiving windower on television the next day stating that his family was missing. On August 14, 2018, while the search was on for his family, Chris Watts confessed.
This is the true story of a family annihilator. While we will never understand his reasons or rationale, we do know that justice was served.
My Daddy is a Hero – How Chris Watts Went from Family Man to Family Killer
Everyone said Chris Watts was a wonderful husband and father. Everyone believed that. Yet, on August 13, 2018, Chris Watts murdered his pregnant wife, Shanann, and his two young daughters. He buried his wife and unborn child in a shallow grave on the property of where he worked. He then put his two young daughters in separate oil tanks.
Family Annihilators are never pleasant to learn about after the fact. They are normally found as incredible fathers and husbands and no one knew differently. This is the true story of Chris Watts, Family Annihilator.
OCH: Portrait of a Family Annihilator
It’s hard to believe that it took 40 years for a Family Annihilator to be brought to justice. The Family Annihilator almost always is seen as a wonderful husband and father. William Bradford Bishop Jr was considered just that with a wife and three boys. A successful Army linguist and Statesman, he was “living the dream”.
That dream came to a close on March 1, 1976, when he allegedly bludgeoned to death his wife, mother, and three sons in Bethesda, Maryland. NOTE: William Bishop is STILL on the FBI’s Most Wanted List.
Two Face: The Man Underneath – Christopher Watts (K9 Book 1)
Yet another book about Christopher Watts. This is a series of 9 books that explore everything about the case from the “why” to the end. The first book covers the basis of the case, before Chris killed his family, and his marriage and home life.
It’s the build up for the second narrative that reveals why he may have broken.
Hidden Valley Road: Inside the Mind of an American Family
This is a strange case. While it isn’t exactly a Family Annihilator, it is definitely a weird, disfuncional, crazy (in the literal sense) family. The Gavin family consisted of Dad and Mom, Don and Mimi Gaven, who had 12 children (YES TWELVE!). The children consisted of TEN boys and two girls. Out of the ten boys, SIX where diagnosed with Schizophrenia. What made them go mad? Was it genetics? Was it the family environment? Read on.
Killer Moms: 16 Bizarre True Crime Stories of Murderous Moms
When you think of Mom, you usually think happy thoughts. These 16 stories are not happy stories.
In this book, you will learn about 16 terrible moms; some high-profile like Casey Anthony and Andrea Yates, others that are not well known. Most of these simply defy explanation. Warning: Disturbing facts..
Dying for daddy: The True story of a Family’s Worst Nightmare
Carlton Smith is one of my all-time favorite author. I find his books inspiring, well researched, and factual. This story, is about the Barron family from Sacramento County, California.
You’ll hear about how “devoted” Jack Barron was to his wife and children. So how did he get from “devoted” to a heartless Family Annihilator?
Now, if you’re like me, after reading even the preview of these books, I need a break! After reading any one of them will have me searching Netflix or Amazon for any Princess movie I can find. Watching Princess movies allows my mind to be calm and relax. Of course if you’re hard core…watch anything on Investigation Discovery, right?
Each week, I will attempt to find the very best in True Crime. I have my personal favorites, of course. Anything by Ann Rule, for example, but there are new books coming out constantly. It’s hard to keep up! Oh! And if you’re interested in really cool free stuff from me, sign up below and get access to the True Crime Diaries Detectives Only Library. You’ll love what you see.
We also have some really fun quizzes. Do you know how you score on the psychopathy scale? Try the one about the Psychopaths now!
If you are a reader, I strongly suggest you sign up for the Amazon Kindle Unlimited. It’s an awesome program that has incredible books, not just true crime, available to read for absolutely FREE.
